Read the latest Lewisham People’s Parliament report on Transport
Read our new people’s parliament report on Transport! We held the People’s Parliament in September 2025, to find out what people think about public transport, including accessibility, hate crime, sexual harassment and using Freedom Passes and Taxicards.

42 people with learning disabilities came to share their views.
Naje Busia from the DLR community ambassadors team came to tell us about his work supporting people with disabilities and access needs to use the DLR, and Jonathan Baggs from Transport for London came to tell us about projects that TfL are working on to make transport more accessible.
We also watched a video by United Response about hate crime on public transport. You can watch it here.
We ran 3 workshops
- Accessibility on public transport
- Hate crime and sexual harassment
- Freedom Passes and Taxicards
Read the report to find out what people had to say in full, but here are some highlights!
- People with learning disabilities would like more support to use public transport independently. Public transport is important for people to live the life they would like to live, and at the moment people with learning disabilities don’t feel completely welcome and safe on public transport
- People would like transport staff to have more training so they can get the right support when they need it
- The process for applying for Freedom Passes and Taxicards is difficult. People said they like using their Freedom Passes, but there is a long wait if they get lost or need to be renewed. Lots of people told us afterwards that they couldn’t come on the day because of difficulties with Taxicards.
Our next People’s Parliament will be on the 5th December, 10.30 – 3.00 at the Catford Civic Suite, where we will talk about Relationships and Sexual Health. Open to all people with learning disabilities living in Lewisham borough. Contact ellie@lsup.org.uk for more information.
